                    By Emily

Over the last few weeks,we have been working on something called 'Celebrating Success'.The slide above is my finished copy of a slide on 'Celebrating My Success' .This slide is my copy.
So what is celebrating our success?Celebrating our  success is celebrating our own success, not anyone else. The teachers shared this slide with us,and we have been working on it for ages.
What does celebrating your success mean to you??

Kahurangi dance company

The Kahurangi Dance Company

Yesterday,we went to the Kahurangi Dance! The Kahurangi Dance Company is a company were they go around visiting schools and entertaining them with Maori legends, which the act out themselves.
My favourite was the legend of Poutini, the story of a sea creature...

Whenever she was on land, and the sea called to her,she had to return.
One day,she was hiding in the flax, when she saw a handsome chief. He was fishing. She tried to get a closer look at him,and accidentally let him see her. They fell in love.It was 'love at first sight!'
They secretly got married, and he took her to his house. But,when the sea called her,she said goodbye to her husband, and went.He tried to stop her,but she explained that when the sea called her,she must leave otherwise she would die,but Poutini promised that she would always visit him.So they continued life together. But then her husband  went to the priest to ask how he could keep Poutini on shore forever. The priest said that if she ate cooked food,Poutini would stay with him forever. So he tried to make her eat cooked food well she was sleeping. But she woke, and saw what her husband had done.So Poutini spat out the food, and returned to the sea forever. Her husband never saw her again.

I hope you liked the story! The show was a lot of fun,and certainly was entertaining and funny!

I enjoyed this because I love making up sentences. Do you like it?
You  should try making up sentences like this. I like how it's a mystery. We had to not tell that the cat was angry. We had to express it.

Arahura Marie

                                                Arahura Marae

Today we went to the Arahura Marae. It is a Marae in the outskirts of Hokitika. We went there for a school trip. My favourite things were the colour-changing lights and the really cool and mysterious stories. Matua T, the leader and storyteller, told us about a few of the Maori legends. He also told us that the colour- changing lights were the spine and ribs of a famous Maori guy. I really liked this experience because it was a chance to finally see the Marae and hear Maori legends. You should go there!!!

What Is A Fairy Tale??

WALT: Locate fairy tales in a library using the Dewey Decimal System.

This week in literacy,we have been looking at fairy tales. One of our jobs was to do a doc once we had found out what section we find fairy tales in a library (in the folk tale section).  It took us a while to find them as we thought they would be in the fiction section however they were in the non fiction. I enjoyed this experience because I like fairy tales and I like school. You should try searching up fairy tales! They are really quite fun!!

The Three Billy Goats Gruff

This week in literacy we have been looking at fairy tales. Our first job was to draw a setting map,and to label the settings, places in the fairy tale. See above my drawing of the three billy goats gruff. I really enjoyed this experience because it was a chance to draw and to learn. I never knew what a setting map was until today. Maybe you could try to make a setting map of your favourite fairy tale. It's easy and fun!!

Nessie Drawing

WALT:Draw a visualisation of Nessie.
This term we have been looking at unsolved mysteries. Nessie, the Loch ness monster, is our main target this week. We have been researching her, and there is only one video recorded of this monster. All pictures of Nessie are faded and blurry. This led us to the conclusion that she could be made-up. But even though there are no very strong foundations of fact, there is some
quite good information that insist that she is real. So this week,we made up our own drawing by using descriptions of her. I really enjoyed this topic. I hope I have inspired you to research unsolved mysteries, and to see if you can make them solved!!

My Wondering

WALT:Find out our wondering's.

This term in literacy we have been looking at wonderopolis, a site which has the answer to everything! My question was "Do cats really have nine lives?" They don't, by the way, that's just a made-up myth. I enjoyed this because this was a question that has been bothering me for a long time.
Maybe you can try wonderopolis?
Thanks for reading!!!!

Author's pass camp 2018 week 7

This week I went on Arthurs pass camp! Arthurs Pass is a pass through the mountains between Greymouth and Christchurch. At camp, we went on a very long sensory trail through the bush, went up to Death's corner to look at Kea, went Orienteering through the bush, and so much more! My favourite thing was Devils Punchbowl, a really cool waterfall. I really enjoyed it. Actually, my opinion is that you go to Arthurs pass yourself! You would enjoy it a lot.
